The castle visitor's centre offers the opportunity to try on armour and costume whilst you discover the history of the castle.
The Ancient High House, is one of the finest Tudor buildings in the country, its museum provides history of the house and who use to live there.
Sudbury hall in Ashbourne is a delightful place to visit; its 17th century house was featured in BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. The house also contains a fascinating museum of childhood.
Ceramica in Burslem is an interactive museum exploring the ceramic industry. Its much more fun than it sounds and suitable for younger visitors and the old.
Alternatively go shopping in style, after all the shoe industry dominated Stafford between the 18th and 19th century so it would be wrong not to enter a shoe shop or two! The main shopping area of Stafford offers a wide range of stores and a selection of specialist shops to tempt all ages and tastes. The Guildhall shopping centre has more than forty shops including top designers.
When you are ready to tickle those taste buds and enjoy some good food The Sun In and The Swan serve traditional pub food. Or you could have an Italian meal in a bank, Pizza Express is situated in a grade II listed building which once was a bank and over looks the market square.
Or go for a drive to the nearby village of Salt and enjoy a meal in the Hollbush Inn, the oldest licensed pub in the area and has featured in the Good Food Guide. It has a huge garden area for outside eating in the summer months and in the winter you can enjoy your meal by a cosy fire.
Nightlife in Stafford can offer you pubs, cinema, theatre and clubs to suit most peoples taste. Greengate Street is lined with pubs that are mostly individually owned or run by small breweries.
